Position #1 Paid Sick Leave
New Mexico’s Healthy Workspaces Act, effective July 1, 2022, is one of the most restrictive sick pay laws enacted nationwide. NAWBO NM prepared a state-by-state matrix of national paid sick leave laws as a resource to illustrate how our new law impacts doing business in the state. As the Department of Workforce Solutions underwent the rule-making process to prepare for this enactment, many problems associated with this law were highlighted. Simply put, small businesses are negatively and disproportionately impacted by the implementation of this new requirement. NAWBO NM prepared a draft amendment that we believe will correct these problems and reduce its disproportionate and harmful impact on the cost of doing business in New Mexico for small businesses.
